Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Thought I’d Like Less Than I Did

Sash has got a Featured Shelf called “Unexpected Enjoyed” – it’s dedicated to books like these. The ones that you picked up maybe because you’d heard others rave about it, or because you liked the cover, or perhaps just because you were trying something outside of your comfort zone – and even though you thought you might like or or weren’t sure, you ended up liking it more than you thought you would, or even LOVING it!

Here’s a list of books S ended up loving that she was slightly hesitant to read (reasons in bold):

Merin @ Read and Reviewed - I LOVED Grave Mercy (although I fully expected to, so it wasn’t a surprise). I do love when books surprise you, though!

estelle - Tara A. is the best. I still need to read “The Best Night.” SOON!ReplyCancel

Renae @ Respiring Thoughts - Of these, I’ve read Grave Mercy and Blood Red Road, and I totally agree with you in term of BRR. Personally, I actually did think it was much better than The Hunger Games. But at the same time, it’s not a good comparison, since THG is dystopian and BRR is post-apocalyptic; buddy genres, but not quite the same thing.

I’m really interested in picking up I Hunt Killers and The Best Night of Your (Pathetic) Life—both seem really different and fun.ReplyCancel

Bonnie - Blood Red Road, I Hunt Killers and Grave Mercy were three books I LOVED too but wasn’t expecting to. Insignia and Keeper of the Lost Cities are both on my shelf but I have yet to get around to them. Glad to hear you really enjoyed them though!

Natalie - I keep hearing such great things about Grave Mercy and its sequel, but just haven’t gotten around to reading it yet. Love the meme with Ryan Gosling. I wish everyone looked like that while driving.

OMG that Gosling/Bean photo at the end killed me!! I love it :)

Jen (A Reading Daydreamer) - Out of all of these books listed, I’ve only read I HUNT KILLERS, and I totally agree with you, I’m a total weenie and didn’t think I would enjoy it as much as I did! LOL the meme you put at the end, love it! I think I want to try out KEEPER OF THE LOST CITIES soon. Thanks for sharing this wonderful post, Sash!ReplyCancel

YA Book Queen - Oh, yes, the blurb for Blood Red Road is very off-putting (I think they are too different to compare), but the book is fortunately awesome! :)

    Nice top ten!ReplyCancel

Kat C - Omg, lol that GIF at the bottom ! I actually put down I Hunt Killers because I thought it was too weird but then I picked it up again at random and I really enjoyed it. I have been entering every contest ever to get my hands on Game early !ReplyCancel

Kate - Grave Mercy – That’s one on my to-read list. I don’t read a lot of fantasy… mostly because a lot of the ones I’ve read have been a little ridiculous. But this one is one I really want to read. Assassin nuns? Sign me up!

Great list and thanks for stopping by my TTT. I really appreciate it.ReplyCancel

Nancy @ Tumbling Books - Oh my gawd.. I HAVEN’T READ ANY OF THESE!!! I feel like such a bad blogger! lol I wanted to read Perfect Chemistry, but it makes me feel uncomfortable that the Hispanic boy is a gang member. Being hispanic myself, I just feel like it would be awkward to read. I don’t know if that makes sense. haha But that’s the one that I’ve wanted to read the most out of your list, though there are a few others that I’ve had my eye on.ReplyCancel

Michelle - I just read I Hunt Killers and liked it a lot too! The Best Night looks good and I’ve always been on the fence as to whether I would like it or not. I’ve seen a lot of good and bad reviews for it. So I’m still thinking about it. Perfect Chemistry definitely seems like one I would like. I feel like it sounds like Pushing the Limits which I loved, so I’m going to read it soon.

Thanks for stopping by My TTTReplyCancel

Janita @ Book, Interrupted - Oooh I haven’t heard of Insignia, but I really loved Ender’s Game! I wasn’t the biggest fan of Grave Mercy, but I have heard amazing things about Blood Red Road. Awesome list!ReplyCancel

Alexa Y. - It makes me so absurdly happy that Perfect Chemistry is on this list. I’m reading that book right now, and I LOVE IT. I’m enjoying the tension of the story, and the steaminess between these two main characters… But I would never have picked it up based on the cover. Just saying ;)ReplyCancel
