Top Ten Books We’ve Read So Far This Year – 2014

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and Bookish.

As you can see, we have ONE book in common – Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor. The Daughter of Smoke and Bone series is absolutely amazing, if you haven’t read it, you can read Sash’s review here.

But there is something else the majority of our books seem to have in common: they are the last book in their series. The Last Battle, Raging Star, Ignite Me, Dreams of Gods and Monsters, and Champion. Perhaps this is a coincidence, or maybe we just like a good (not always happy) ending.

Complete List:

  • Raging Star by Moira Young

The Dustland trilogy is one of the grittiest YA trilogies out there. It’s raw and real – seriously, absolutely ZERO sugarcoating.

  • The Last Battle by C.S. Lewis

The ending of The Chronicles of Narnia is one of the BEST possible endings EVER. And this series as a whole is a favorite of Sash’s.

What a FUN alternative universe for what happens to Oz after Dorothy leaves (hint: she comes back and is EVIL!). Say what!

  • A Dance with Dragons by George R.R. Martin

  • Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor

Laini Taylor’s last installment of her Daughter of Smoke and Bone series came out in April, and you’d better believe that BOTH of us immediately got a copy. Her writing is beautiful, the story is beautiful, EVERYTHING about this book (and series) is beautiful.

Though this came out at the end of 2013, Em started reading it in 2014 – WHY DID SHE WAIT SO LONG. It’s good.

  • The Maze Runner by James Dashner

A boy’s POV and so thrilling – we can see how this one definitely got made into a movie. Hope it does well at the box office!

  • Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi

Another GREAT ending..(maybe this Top Ten Tuesday should have been “Top Ten Endings” for us..) but SO GOOD. Warner..Adam..Hubba hubba.

  • In the End by Demitria Lunetta

Em loves this world and was SO excited to read before it comes in June 24th, 2014!

Stefani @ Caught Read Handed - THE MAZE RUNNER. YES. I absolutely loved that book (and the whole series). It’s actually the reason (well, the push) that I started my blog. I had to tell people about it.

Megan@YA? Why Not? - I am so desperate to read Dreams of Gods and Monsters. I want to listen to it, so I have to wait my turn for the audio. Love Dorothy Must Die and Champion. The final Dust Lands is at home on my shelf; I really need to get to it. Thanks for sharing! Here are my favorites:

Angela @ Angela's Library - Thanks for stopping by my site today! I love your list as well – I see we have Ignite Me in common. :-) Also, I JUST finished reading Dreams of Gods and Monsters, and I’m not sure how I feel about it. I definitely liked it, but overall the book didn’t really feel like the first two. It was missing some of the magic for me. I’m still sad it’s over, though. I’m definitely going through some Laini Taylor withdrawal right now.ReplyCancel

Brooke @ Brooke Reviews - Champion and Maze Runner are both great books! I’m excited to see Maze Runner in theaters, and I just saw on Twitter that Legend might make it to the screen, as well. :) And Dorothy Must Die is at the top of my summer reading list. Great post!ReplyCancel
