Edie has been relentlessly bullied, and she’s come to the end of her rope. Mysterious and beautiful boy Kian shows up to make her dreams come true. That is, if she signs an agreement with him and his magical faction. She’s skeptical, but decides she has nothing to lose. Her desire for revenge against her bullies outweighs everything. And she knows exactly what she wants from Kian.

Over the summer he makes her beautiful, transforms her. She’ll be able to slip into the crowd that devastated her life. She’ll destroy them from the inside. As it all unfolds, Edie learns more about Kian’s world and what it is their agreement requires. His world is a dark world, filled with cold and harsh people. Like Edie, Kian has a dark past and she wants so badly to trust him completely, but something’s standing in her way.

This book is a rough, rough ride, but totally worth everything heart-shattering page. I absolutely adore Ann Aguirre for writing this book and upon reading the Author’s Note, I wanted to hug her to pieces.

Edie has been pushed to the literal ledge and is no longer interested in living a life where her parents practically ignore her and she is maliciously bullied by her peers at her elite private school. She is a self-described ugly duckling and doesn’t feel like she has anything to offer to the world other than her perfect grades, but those don’t matter anymore.

She’s ready to end it.

Until a mysterious hand pulls her back and makes her an offer she really can’t refuse…

The chance for revenge. The only people that are made this offer have to reach extremis (which in Edie’s case is the night on the bridge when she’s prepared to make the jump). These people chosen to be offered a deal of three favors have to be prepared to pay the price when the time comes. Whenever that may be. Edie is special…like all those offered a deal, a second chance. She will bring something important and special to the world…and now she’s a pawn in a game she doesn’t want to play.

Edie enters into a deal with an unknown broker, but at the end of the deal, she is required to return some favors to her debtor.

Now Edie is juggling her need for revenge, new relationships of every kind, and staying out of the line of fire in a supernatural world she knows almost nothing.

This book is a serious thriller with an emotional roller coaster ranging from despair to righteous anger. I absolutely LOVED it and would recommend it to anyone who loves supernatural YA.
