Follow up to: In the After

It’s been three months since Amy escaped New Hope, and she’s been surviving on her own, like she did in the After. Until one day, her former fellow Guardian’s voice rings out in her earpiece. And in a desperate tone, Kay utters the four words Amy had hoped she would never hear: Dr. Reynolds has Baby.

Now it’s a race against time, for Baby is in imminent danger, her life threatened by the malevolent doctor who had helped start the end of the world. In order to save Baby, Amy must make her way to Fort Black, a prison-turned-survivor-colony, where she will need to find Ken, Kay’s brother. He alone holds the key to Baby’s survival.

One small slip-up on this quest could spark a downward spiral that would not only cost Baby and Amy their lives, but threaten the very survival of the people in the After.

This was an awesome follow-up to In The After. It had a totally different feel and you got to see more of what is left of the world in the After. Amy has found what she’s looking for, but decides to leave New Hope and strike out on her own.

Turns out…New Hope wasn’t exactly what she expected and she’s in danger there. Amy leaves Baby behind, but soon gets news that she’s in danger, too.

Amy finds a prison that has been turned into a fortress, and the survivors are a mix of prisoners and civilians. However, we really get to see how tough of a protagonist Amy is when she meets her first not-so-friendlies. I LOVE that she can handle herself…and as you know from the previous book, her Guardian suit helps her out quite a bit.

She finds a friendly face after a TON of untrustworthy creeps and soon finds herself developing feelings…for the Warden’s grandson.

Chaos ensues.

Amy needs to find Kay’s brother to help her save Baby back in New Hope, but she’s running out of time and options.

This sequel to Demitria Lunetta’s In The After is thrilling, terrifying, thoughtful, and overall…WONDERFUL. I have needed a post-apocalyptic series like this! The premise still sticks with me and I bounce around scenarios in my head of what it would be like if this really happened. If you want a post-apocalytic, SciFi read…then this is for you!
