All Our Yesterdays (2013)
All Our Yesterdays by Cristin Terrill
“You have to kill him.”
Imprisoned in the heart of a secret military base, Em has nothing except the voice of the boy in the cell next door and the list of instructions she finds taped inside the drain.
Only Em can complete the final instruction. She’s tried everything to prevent the creation of a time machine that will tear the world apart. She holds the proof: a list she has never seen before, written in her own hand. Each failed attempt in the past has led her to the same terrible present—imprisoned and tortured by a sadistic man called the doctor while war rages outside.
Marina has loved her best friend James since they were children. A gorgeous, introverted science prodigy from one of America’s most famous families, James finally seems to be seeing Marina in a new way, too. But on one disastrous night, James’s life crumbles apart, and with it, Marina’s hopes for their future. Marina will protect James, no matter what. Even if it means opening her eyes to a truth so terrible that she may not survive it. At least not as the girl she once was. Em and Marina are in a race against time that only one of them can win.

If ALL OUR YESTERDAYS was a cupcake, what kind would it be and why?
I think it would be a rocky road cupcake. The characters are definitely on a rocky road, and the story has hard parts (the nuts), sweet parts (the marshmallows), and is pretty dark overall (the chocolate).
Describe ALL OUR YESTERDAYS in a haiku.
Assassins through time
Love the one they have to kill.
Please buy it, thank you.
Quick! A celebrity is spotted reading ALL OUR YESTERDAYS. Who is it?
Well, given her current take-over of the YA world, it’s probably Shailene Woodley!
When it comes to travel, would you rather have the ability to travel BACK in time or FORWARDS? Would you go to a specific time/place?
Back, definitely! While lots of people’s big questions are about the meaning of life or existence of God, most of mine are about how various historical events really happened. (I’m a nerd, I know.) To have the ability to actually find out would be amazing. (Plus, the future might be terrible! I’d rather not know.)
What’s your favorite thing about the DC area?
The YA community! There are a ton of great YA writers around here. We’re called the DC MafYA (“makes us an offer we can’t refuse!”), and we do a lot together and have a ton of fun. They’re the best, most supportive friends ever.
A huge thanks to Cristin for taking the time to answer a few questions about All Our Yesterdays!
